We are looking forward to a fun month of getting to know one another, learning our new classroom routines, rules and making many new friends.
Our month begins with many fun activities helping us to get to know one another and develop new friendships. We will even have a Teddy Bear picnic with our stuffed friends we bring to school to share our day with! The concepts covered this month are: Letters A, B, C Colors Blue, Green, Yellow Themes of Friendship, Family and Friends We will end our month with our annual Fall Family Field trip to Kroll’s Farm to learn more about farm animals, fall and even go on a hay ride! This is going to be a fun first month to our new school year with many things to learn and new friends to make! A fun first month of school!
It has been a fun month of settling into our new year in school. We learned our school rules, about being good friends, our feelings that we have and about each other’s families. We celebrated our friendships with our Teddy Bear picnics and practiced our one to one counting when making our family homes. We learned about the signs of fall and learned the sounds of Letters A, B, C, D while making our Alpha-friends each week. We also learned the colors Blue, Green and Yellow. We look forward to our rescheduled family trip to Kroll’s farm. It will be a nice opportunity for our families to get to know one another and spend time with their children. A Look Ahead: In October we will be learning more about fall as we study our Five Senses, learn about Fire Safety, celebrate the Halloween holiday season and learn the letters E, F,G,H and the colors Red, Purple, Orange and Black. We will also be learning some Halloween songs to sing for our parents on party day! We are excited to begin our new school year! The new theme for our school year is: We Are God's Light In The World. We have been asked by the Archdiocese of Chicago to also explore how to build our focus on Catholic Identity. By choosing a Catholic education one helps to form a foundation for your child's relationship with others and God. Each child will learn that love for each other, respect, kindness, and honesty all form the foundation for a true Catholic Identity so that we may shine our light in God's world.
School begins with our Parent/Child Orientation Days: Wednesday 8/24 from 9:00 am - 10:00 am - MWF class Thursday 8/25 - T/Th class Friday 8/26 - PreK-4 class Classes begin: Monday 8/29 for our MWF and PreK-4 classes Tuesday 8/30 for our T/Th class The month of February brought learning about rhyming, Authors and Illustrators and the completion of our shapes unit. It was fun writing our own stories and illustrating pictures just as we learned about in the many stories that we read. We learned about many different authors including Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, Mo Willems and Laura Numeroff. Our author buddies also began making their trips home. We love listening to each other’s stories when we bring our buddies back to school. We also had fun celebrating Valentine’s Day with a party to celebrate our classroom friendships.
We began the season of Lent by starting our Lenten sunshine project that will continue through Easter. We will do good deeds through the season to make our hallway suns shine brightly for Jesus' resurrection. Preschoolers came back to a week of winter fun after their Christmas break. They practiced their name writing when making fun name snowmen and painted fun snowflakes for our wintery hallway - Our Preschoolers are so Brrrrr...rilliant! We learned about Opposites during letter O week and made Oval penguins while learning about opposite dark and light colors. They had a super fun week with letter P is for pink pigs, painting, pancakes and pajamas - the week ended with making pancakes and wearing our pajamas to school. We ended our month with a unit on dinosaurs. It was so much fun learning about these extinct animals, painting dinosaur tracks, making name-osaurs, pretending to be paleontologists wearing our fun hats we made and using our tools to chip away at hidden dinosaur treasures - we even made our own fossils to bring home. It sure was a fun winter month! We now prepare for our Catholic Schools week activities, Valentine fun, and starting our Lenten season.
The month of December was spent learning about the season of Advent by preparing for the birthday of Jesus and learning the reason we celebrate Christmas.
We began our preparations by making an Advent handprint wreath which we brought home to share with our family as we added a candle each week. We also made a manger for Jesus to which we added our yellow strips of hay by doing kind deeds for others. This was a wonderful way to show the love in our hearts for others! We made angels, a manger scene for our hallway and special projects for our parents to wrap and put under the Christmas tree. We continued learning our letters through K and finished learning our colors. The month ended with a Birthday party for Jesus in which we made birthday crowns, played games, made our own personal birthday cakes and sang Happy Birthday to Jesus. What a blessed month we all had! The month of January will bring Winter fun and learning learning all about opposites. Happy 2016! The children spent the month of November learning about Community Helpers – they enjoyed their visits with our parent police officer and nurse. They learned about staying safe from strangers when out with their parents, the phone number to call in emergencies and even got to sit in a real police car with Officer White. With Nurse Janice they saw how germs spread with "glitter hand germs" and learned how to stay healthy by washing their hands and catching their germs in their elbow "germ-catchers".
We also spent time learning about the first Thanksgiving, what country we live in, where the pilgrims came from and who was here to meet them when they landed at Plymouth Rock. The children talked about all that they were thankful for as we hung our thankful feathers on our hallway Preschool turkey. The month ended with the children participating in feast preparations for their own classroom feasts with their friends and then sharing Thanksgiving songs with our families. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to those who provided food or volunteered to help in our classrooms to run our centers for our feasts. We are blessed to have such wonderful, caring parents in our preschool family. It is hard to believe that October has come and gone. The preschoolers did an awesome job singing their Halloween Spooky Songs. Thanks to all of our parents for helping at our parties, donating items or attending our sing-along. It meant a lot to the children to have you there. We were visited by our Firefighter dads who taught us how to stay safe and showed us all of their equipment and how they look when they dress in their gear. The children learned about their Five Senses while creating many Halloween projects and continued making their Alphabet Pictures ending with a Haunted House Letter H during Halloween week! They even were able to explore a pumpkin with their sense while cleaning it out to carve a classroom Jack O'Lantern with their teachers.
In November we will be learning about our Community Helpers with visits from some of our community helper parents – nurse and policeman. We’ll talk about staying healthy, the fall harvest, enjoy a night with their family in the preschool rooms and end with our Thanksgiving feast. We are looking forward to another fun and busy month. |
